Sketchy

Hi there!
Here is this week's sketch from Sketchy Thursdays blog:

And here is my layout using this sketch. (I told you that I loved playing along with sketches & challenges!)

I loved the simplicity of this sketch, & knew right away that I wanted to use this paper from Sassafrass that came in last month's Scrapbook Circle kit. I adored the paper from the minute I laid eyes on it! I am notorious though for hoarding supplies that I love!! But I am so glad that I used this paper & am really  happy with how the layout came together.
These photos are from 2 1/2 years ago. The kids loved our sweet dog, Lukey who we lost to cancer in January of 2010. He was such an amazing pet & was great with the kids. We all still miss him so much!
Thanks for stopping by! Have a good Monday night.

She Will Be Loved

I wanted to get down some thoughts about my daughter, Leah. She just started 3rd grade & is growing up faster than I care to admit!
She has morphed into a sweet, loving, responsible young lady. Not  that she hasn't always been our sweet girl, she has; but we definitely had our share of troubled times with her. She is very head-strong & determined; independent & self-assured. All of these are qualities that I know we will cherish- they are just hard to deal with when parenting a toddler or young child.
She just told us yesterday that we treat her like a baby because we would not allow her to bike ride through the neighborhood without an adult. She is only 8!! I realize that we will have to give her more "growing room" soon, but I don't know that I am ready to do that just yet. Before I know it, she'll be a teenager & will want nothing to do with me. I remember those days very well. Mom was not to be seen; merely a means for money & transportation when needed.
She has truly amazed me in the last couple of years. She is a great student; very independent, yet willing to listen to our advise; her manners are improving by great strides; she is extremely athletic & agile; she is a good friend & a kind person. Our hard work is paying off. And to think that some days I thought it was all inane!

"The Mother's Prayer for Its Daughter"

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU   logo stain her tender haunches.
May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.
When the Crystal Meth is offered, May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer.
Guide her, protect her
When crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.
Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels.
What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.
May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.
Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen. Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.
O Lord, break the Internet forever, That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.
And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.
And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back.
“My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes. -Tina Fey, Bossypants

Looking Back

I made this layout for a challenge at My Mind's Eye blog. The challenge was to create a page with the title "Back to_______" (you fill in the blank). You can check out the challenge & design ideas here:
http://mymindseye.typepad.com/blog/2011/09/blog-challenge-27-layout.html

I have always loved this photo of  the four of us. It was the first day that Ty came home from the hospital & probably the first picture taken of our new family of 4!
It's so hard to believe that that was almost 5 years ago!!!

I have always been a huge MME fan & I love playing along with their blog challenges each month!! For this page, I used a mix of elements from their Andrea Victoria, Quite Contrary, So Sophie, Life Stories & Lush collections. I love how interchangeable their lines are.

Thanks for stopping by!

So I wanted to share a little bit about our weekend. We went to Field Day of the past Friday night. It is a small "carnival" of sorts in this area that happens once every September. We have been taking the kids since Ty was about 2. They love the rides, the treats, the animals, the old-timey cars & trucks....But mainly Ty LOVES the tractor pull! It is when big pick-up trucks hook up to a huge tractor & pull it as far as they can down a dirt path. It's very loud, & our son is not keen on loud things. So it's a bit of a contradiction that he loves this event as much as he does. In fact, last year when we left FDOTP, he immediately started asking when he could go again! We gently told him that he had to wait til next  year. And he did not forget! He talked about the tractor pull & seeing the trucks regularly. And I had no idea that FDOTP was happening last weekend (although I did know that it had to be coming up soon). So when I found out, we quickly made plans to go with my sister, brother-in-law, & nephew. Since Saturday looked like it could rain, we decided Friday night was the best time to go. & the boys (& girls)  loved it!!! We didn't stay too long, just long enough to ride some rides & see tha main attraction!
I am so glad that we didn't miss out on it this year-Ty would have been heart broken!
Happy Tuesday all!

Sketchy Challenge

I love working with sketches & it's made even more fun when playing along with a challenge! One of my favorite sketch blogs is Sketchy Thursdays. This layout was made using this week's sketch from ST. I used the August kit again from Scrapbook Circle. Love this kit so much!!
And here is the sketch

Another Page

I am posting the latest challenge
that I did at 2Peas. This was for the "Stretch Your Sketch" class. Again, I used mostly the August kit from Scrapbook Circle.
These photos are over four years old but are among some of my all-time favorites! They were taken when Ty was just days old by my good friend Laura.
I love the circle paper from Basic Grey. I also used my EK Success punch, crackle paint (the yellow circles & tag),  & the corrugated ampersand is from Jillibean Soup.

That's it for now!

The Beginning

So this is it-I have finally started a blog! After more than a year of deliberation, I finally caved. I have worried in the past that it would be too hard to continue with a blog; that it would take away from my family time; that it would interrup my daily chores & obligations; etc., etc., etc. But I have found that I already spend so much time in cyberspace viewing other websites & blogs, I figured I might as well spend the screen time on my own!

So this is my first post. I don't have much to say other than I will definitely need some time trying to learn everything that comes along with having a blog. I am excited to be starting this journey. I want to see how it will evolve & where I can go with it. I will share my scrapbook and craft projects; stories of everyday life with my family & kids; and anything else that is of utmost importance (ha!).

For now, here is the latest layout I have finished. I created it with the August kit from Scrapbook Circle, "You Are My Sunshine". I love this kit & am still using it diligently, even though this month's kit arrived last week!!

This is my daughter, Leah at our area pumpkin patch a couple of years ago.
I loved all the papers from this kit & the canvas tags were fun to play with. I might need more!

That's all for now. It's time for family movie night!
